AVG and Windows 7 64-bit users

As of December 2, 2010 AVG sent out an update that conflicted with some users of Windows 7 64 bit editions. Since it was discovered that this update prevented these systems from booting up properly after a restart, AVG was quick to deliver a solution and recall the update.

We have used AVG Free edition as our recommended home pc security tool for years and this is the first time we have encounted such a significant failure on the update process.

It is important to note that AVG was on the ball and had a solution within 12 hours of the update and even though we did have a couple of clients call us with the exact problem, most didn’t even notice because AVG had pulled the affected update off their servers in a very short period of time.
